“Mordecai...was great among the Jews and well received by the multitude of his brethren, seeking the good of the people...” (Esther 10:3)
Mordecai was a simple servant at the gate who raised an orphaned niece named Esther. Who would have thought this man and his adopted daughter would have impacted not only his generation, but also every generation to follow? Here we see the fruit of righteousness, godliness, obedience, and the keeping of the commandment, “Honor your father and mother.”
Mordecai and Esther are wonderful examples of simple faith and obedience. Mordecai trusted God and Esther likewise trusted Mordecai. Lesser men and women would have fled for their lives and left the people to fend for themselves, but that is not the way of the godly.
The uncompromising faith of Mordecai and the faithful obedience of Esther are a benchmark of righteousness. Let us stand firm at the gate and stand with honor before the king. Let us, like Mordecai and Esther, be examples to the believers and a testimony to the world.
