"Let your waist be girded and your lamps burning." (Luke 12:35)
We are called to be in a state of readiness. We are to be ready in season and out of season. Few events of great significance come with ample warning and time for preparation. From opportunities to tragedies, those who are in a state of readiness have the advantage. When opportunity arises, if you are doing your best at what you do, you will be ready. If tragedy befalls you, you will not be of guard. You will rise to the occasion and shine at your brightest. Death for example seldom comes announced. It is never convenient. However it does demand all our attention. You do not prepare for death, but if you are prepared for life, death will not overwhelm you. Likewise with opportunity, it may only knock once, but when it does you are ready to answer its call. Therefore buckle-up and light your lamp. Do what you do as well as you can and you will not be overcome by the unexpected events of life.
