King Solomon sent and brought Huram from Tyre… he was filled with wisdom and understanding and skill in working… So he came… and did all his work. (1 Kings 7:13)
We are called to reach out and down to help and give to those in need, but to succeed at these endeavors we must likewise reach up. Whether building a church or a business it is wise to find people who are more gifted than ourselves to complete God's calling in our lives. A church for example that grows only from within will not exceed its own knowledge and abilities. We are to mentor and raise up leadership from within. Yet wisdom will likewise reach out and up to those with greater talents and wisdom than what may be found from within. Solomon was not intimidated by Huram's wisdom, understanding and skill. He succeeded by it. Never be afraid to surround yourself with those more gifted than yourself—unless you are satisfied with the mediocrity of your limits. Yes, reach out and down, but by all means, reach up to those who can lift you.
