You, O Lord, are a God full of compassion, and gracious, Longsuffering and abundant in mercy and truth. (Psalm 86:15)
These things are not God, but God is in these things. We are mistaken when we worship the attributes of God and not God Himself. Yes, we are to praise Him for His compassion, graciousness, longsuffering, mercy, and truth, but we are to worship Him for who He is. He is Lord God Almighty.
Furthermore, Christ is not just a truth He is The Truth. He is God. Oswald Chambers said, “Would that men who name the name of Christ realize that He is the Truth, not the proclaimer of it; that He is the Gospel, not the preacher of the Gospel.”(1) There are many truths, but only one who is the Truth. There may be many who possess a level of compassion, grace, patience and mercy, but there is only one who holds these attributes in absolute truth. That one is Christ Jesus the Lord. When we seek Him, we will find them.
