Now it came to pass after these things that God tested Abraham, and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am." (Genesis 22:1)
What do you do when God calls you to the test? How do you respond? Do you say, like Abraham, "Here I am," or do you flee from His presence like Jonah? How we respond depends on where we are with relationship to our faith and our understanding. Faith responds believing, trusting and obeying. Understanding realizes that God's testing is not for the purpose of informing God of our knowledge and faith. Understanding realizes that the testing of God is so that we would know what we believe and how much we trust Him. God knows our hearts. He not only knows what we need before we ask, He knows our faith and willingness to obey. He, likewise, knows that we need to know as well. This is the purpose of the testing of the Lord. That we and those around us would know as He knows.
