We . . . do not cease to pray for you and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding. (Colossians 1:9)
I love the phrase, “the understanding of His will.” The apostle prayed that the Colossians would receive spiritual wisdom and understanding first and foremost. It is one thing to know God’s will for our lives and to have the wisdom to obey it, but it is even more awesome to understand His will.
Understanding His will adds clarity to our vision and magnifies our enthusiasm. There is no greater joy than to know the mind of the Lord - to know in the depths of our beings, without doubt, that God is directing us toward a certain goal.
Therefore, let us seek it not only for ourselves, but likewise, let us pray for others to acquire this level of understanding. Let us pray this way for our families, our churches and those who are dear to us. Let us pray expecting God to fill us with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding.
