The rich man's wealth is his strong city, and like a high wall in his own esteem. (Proverbs 18:11)
There are great benefits to wealth and riches. Nevertheless, unconditional security is not one of them. Heartache, trouble and the like are no respecter of a person's financial status. Life and death come to the impoverished as well as the wealthy. There is only one true foundation of security: that is the security found in Jesus Christ. Any other source will let you down and prove to be at best a facade. Yet we imagine that if we have such and such or this and that we will be secure. You may, but only, as our text says, in your own imagination. Seek to prosper, secure financial wealth, but do so for its true benefits: freedom to serve, give and help others, the ability to enjoy life and its blessings. Seek to prosper that you will have both the time and resources to serve the one who gives everlasting security, the Lord Jesus Christ.
