The righteous perishes, and no man takes it to heart; merciful men are taken away, while no one considers that the righteous is taken away from evil. (Isaiah 57:1)
Why do the good often die young? Why are mere children frequently deprived of a full long life? God knows. And a partial answer is given to us in our text. They are taken away from evil. The following verse tells their fate, "They shall enter into peace." Death is seldom if ever easy for those left behind. It is the final enemy to be destroyed. Nevertheless for those who pass from this life into eternal life in a place called heaven, it is far better. The apostle Paul told the Philippian church, "For I am hard-pressed between the two, having a desire to depart and be with Christ, which is far better." Death will never be easy. We were not originally designed for it. It is the result of a sin cursed world. But Christ has overcome sin and death. When we place our faith and trust in Him, death no longer has dominion over us.
