Do Well

Scripture
If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin lies at the door. And its desire is for you, but you should rule over it.
(Genesis 4:7)
Devotional
What does it mean to us to do well? As it was and shall always be, to do well is to follow and obey Christ. As sin was and shall always be, its desire is to kill, steal and destroy.[1] Here is the key to doing well and dealing with the temptations to sin, "You should rule over it." Another translation says, "You must master it."[2] In Christ, sin no longer has dominion over us.[3] We will always be tempted not to do well. The enemy of the brethren is relentless in his ways to deceive, "if possible, even the elect."[4] Nevertheless Christ is more than able to deliver us from his schemes. We don not have to acquiesce to him. Therefore let us do well by walking in total obedience to Christ. Do the good that you know to do. If you find yourself yielding to sin's temptations, call out to God; He will grant you repentance and you will "Do well."
