Title

Honoring The Familiar

Scripture
Jesus said to them, "A prophet is not without honor except in his own country, among his own relatives, and in his own house."
(Mark 6:4)
Devotional
Familiarity truly breads contempt. The closer we get to people the more we begin to judge them by our own character instead of their true character. Whenever being corrected we are more apt to listen to those who we know from a distance than those who are the closest to us. The exception being: when those close to us have authority in our lives and can mandate obedience. Consider Jesus: He came unto His own country and His own did not receive Him.[30] He was rejected in His hometown.[31] He was even rejected by His family to the point that they considered Him insane.[32] The lesson is at least two fold: familiarity is a stumbling block; secondly, there may be a prophet in our midst. Let us realize both. It will most likely be difficult to lead those closest to you and those closest to you may be the ones you are to follow.
