Traditions

Scripture
Laying aside the commandment of God, you hold the tradition of men
(Mark 7:8)
Devotional
The pharisaical ways of the unredeemed or carnal religious has not changed. Unchecked traditions will always have precedence over truth. Instead of a new song it sings the nostalgic. Instead of reaching out it is confined to its hoard. The outward appearance of the traditions of men is clean and intact, but inwardly it is filled with dead men's bones.[1] Many if not most traditions began in a godly manner or as a good thing; that is why they likely became traditions. However, when traditions are left unchecked they can and more than often do become contrary to the commandments of God. The traditions of men unchallenged will eventually be the deathblow of the greatest of churches. You show me a church stuck in traditions and I'll show you a dying or dead church. Traditions that are based on the commandments of men, no matter how noble, will sooner or later contradict the commandments of God.
