Title

Is Wickedness a Choice?

Scripture
Hide me from the secret plots of the wicked, from the rebellion of the workers of iniquity.
(Psalm 64:2)
Devotional
Do the wicked know that they are wicked? If not why not and if so why do they continue in their wickedness? Did Judas know that his betrayal of Jesus was work of iniquity? Did the religious leaders who persecuted and crucified Christ know that what they were doing was wicked? Because of the complexity of sin and the simplicity of righteousness, wickedness is a choice that is made. Judas chose a different master. Those who crucified Christ chose a different Messiah. There choices were wicked, because they were based on their own understanding, bias and lusts. A root of wickedness is chosen ignorance. One would also have to be convinced that there are those who purposefully and willfully chose to be wicked. There are knowingly evil people who foolishly chose to follow the deceiver of the brethren rather than the Creator of the universe. For what ever reason the wicked practice their wickedness, may the Lord protect the righteous from them.
