Title

Listening for Inclinations

Scripture
David said with longing, "Oh, that someone would give me a drink of the water from the well of Bethlehem..." So the three mighty men broke through the camp of the Philistines, drew water from the well... and... brought it to David.
(2 Samuel 23:15-16)
Devotional
There is a wonderful story about Katherine Luther the wife of the great reformer Martin Luther. She was asked what she thought about her husbands teaching on submission, to which she answered, "I submit to his inclinations." Here in our text we have an example of this honor. These men of valor trusted not only David, but also David's God. They knew that God was with him. Such loyalty and trust is hard to find. Nevertheless it is as needed today as it was in ancient Israel. I believe that the Lord is looking for trusted leaders and loyal people of valor who are willing to submit to His inclinations. O that there would be a people ready to follow those who are following the Lord. Unfortunately these are a rarity in our day. Many people seldom do what they say they are going to do, few will do what they are directed to do and next to none will submit to what is communicated by inclination. May there be more mighty men of valor.
