Title

The Depth of God's Love

Scripture
Now Jesus loved Martha and her sister and Lazarus.
(John 11:5)
Devotional
Nevertheless, Jesus waited four days before He went to see this family whom He loved. Mary and Martha mourned and suffered, not only during the loss of their brother, but also during the time of his infirmity. If Jesus loved them, why did He wait? Why did He allow Lazarus to be ill and die? Why did He not come more quickly and at least comfort them? Do you ever feel this way? Do you ever wonder why God doesn't intervene more quickly? I do. However, I have to lean on the side of faith to even slightly attempt to understand God's timing. Jesus asked Martha, "Whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?"[42] It would have been one thing for Christ to ask her this question while Lazarus was alive, but it was a totally different question after he had died. It doesn't take a lot of faith to believe in good times, but it takes great faith to believe in the hard times of life. Because of Christ's great love for us, sometimes, we will have to wait to see that love.
