Title

Almost

Scripture
Then Agrippa said to Paul, "You almost persuade me to become a Christian."
(Acts 26:28)
Devotional
The exact meaning of Agrippa's comment is not clear. Whether he was making a statement or asking a question is a matter of translation. If making a statement, it sounds as if he were telling the apostle Paul that he was close to becoming a Christian. If asking a question it sounds as if he were ridiculing Paul for his short attempt to make him a Christian. Whatever the tone, it appears that Agrippa was almost convinced. How sad to almost be converted. I wonder how many people fall into this category, "Almost persuaded?" Agrippa was obviously convinced of at least Paul's innocents. I am going to imagine that he was also convicted of his own condition. We have got to admire Paul's response to Agrippa's statement, "I would to God that not only you, but also all who hear me today, might become both almost and altogether such as I am, except for these chains."[27] Almost is not good enough in God's kingdom.
