The purpose of the law is to reveal that which is harmful to us. There is no salvation in it's keeping there is only freedom. We are not to obey the commandments to be free from sin; we are to keep them because we are free from sin. The apostle Paul says of the law, "I would not have known sin except through the law. For I would not have known covetousness unless the law had said,
