Title

We Cannot Work Our Way To God

Scripture
To him who does not work but believes on Him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is accounted for righteousness.
(Romans 4:5)
Devotional
It is not a matter of working or not working, it is a matter of realizing that we are justified by faith not works. We do not work to be forgiven; we are to work because we are forgiven. There is a huge difference in the two views of works. The Bible is more than clear, "By the works of the law no flesh shall be justified."[4] God is not impressed with our works. If we attempt to impress Him, in reality we are saying that the work of His Son was lacking. It was not. It is not. Because of our faith in Christ, we work, not that we might be found righteous, but because we are now righteous. We are not righteous because of what we do, but because of who we are. Christ Jesus has made us righteous. Therefore let us work because we believe. We do not believe because we work do we? Our faith is not in works, but in the One who has completed the work, Christ Jesus the Lord.
