Title

The Flesh

Scripture
Those who are in the flesh cannot please God.
(Romans 8:8)
Devotional
What is, "In the flesh?" To be in the flesh is to be controlled by self, void of obedience to the Spirit of God. To be in the flesh is to be governed by emotions, lusts and our based sin nature. It is the opposite of being, "In the Spirit." Being "In the Spirit" is not a hocus-pocus, abracadabra or mystical state of being. It is simply walking in obedience to the Spirit of God as directed by the Word of God. It is a cognitive choice we make. Instead of choosing bitterness and hate, we choose love and peace. Instead of irritation and malice we choose patience and kindness. Yielding to our emotions is not pleasing to God; controlling them is. Walking in the Spirit is not a robotic trance like state. It is purposefully yielding to the leading of the Lord through the directive of His Word and the leading of His Spirit. This is more than often accomplished through the conscience. When we violate our conscience we inevitably violate the Spirit.
