For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.

Devotional
The church cannot be built on anything other than Christ. It cannot stand on philosophies, causes or even a set of doctrines. No matter how good the cause, no matter how sound the philosophy and no matter how true the doctrines, "Unless the Lord builds the house, they labor in vain who build it."[23] I am not saying that a church should not have these, but I am saying that these cannot stand as a firm foundation. They will in due time crumble and fall, but Christ will stand for all of eternity. It is for this reason that the apostle Paul said to the church at Corinth, "For I determined not to know anything among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified."[24] The church is not to be built on the talents and abilities of people, or by wealth and prestige, but on the unadulterated gospel of Jesus Christ. A church that that puts its focus on Christ is a church on which Christ will focus.
