The Economy of Life

Scripture
To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven
(Ecclesiastes 3:1&6a)
Devotional
Life like in business has its ups and its downs. There will always be times of prophet and times of loss. It is what we do in these times that matter most. In times of gain the wise set aside a portion of that gain for they know that times of loss will inevitably comes. Like Joseph's care of Pharaoh's grain in preparation for a time of famine, the wise keep a reserve. Likewise knowing how to traverse times of loss takes the same patience and wisdom. Learning prudence and austerity will not only bring one through life's "hard times," but will cause them to grow and even prosper in them. What we call "the economy" is a financial fluctuating organism. It breathes: inhaling and exhaling, consuming and saving. Knowing that neither time will last forever is the beginning of functioning well economically. It is a matter of godly stewardship.
