For though I might desire to boast, I will not be a fool; for I will speak the truth. But I refrain, lest anyone should think of me above what he sees me to be or hears from me.

Of the many wonders of the scriptures, one that always amazes me is that a letter written to a certain group of people would be so applicable, true and relevant two thousand years later. This transparent wisdom of the apostle Paul should be an encouragement and lesson to every confident believer. The apostle desired to boast. I do not believe that he desired to boast of his accomplishments, but of what Christ accomplished in him. To do other wise, he knew, would be foolish. Therefore, he refrained from any boasting fearing that others would think too highly of him. If there would be any boasting, it would be not self-exulting, but Christ honoring and church edifying. He knew and heeded the instruction of the prophet Jeremiah, "
