Of the works of the flesh, the ones that appear to be the most deceiving and cunning to me are: contentions, selfish ambitions and dissensions. These are often, especially in the church, masquerade themselves as doctrinal differences, the Holy Spirit's leading and discerning of spirits. The deceiver of the brethren accosts the flesh through the window of our reasoning. Man's reasoning is never a spiritual matter. We will always reason in the flesh. Thinking on the other hand is to be based on the mind of Christ. We are to be, "casting down imaginations, and every high thing that is exalted against the knowledge of God, and bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ."[40] Let us honestly examine ourselves. If there are any of these works of the flesh within us, let us confess them to the Lord, that He would grant us repentance.
