The elders who are among you I exhort... Shepherd the flock of God... serving as overseers, not by compulsion...not for dishonest gain... nor as being lords over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock.

Devotional
It is hard to elaborate on the simplicity of our text. This word to pastors (leaders) is explicitly clear. Whether you pastor a church, lead a business or are the head of a household, these clear principles of leadership apply to you. We are never to lord over, we are to always lead under and do so by example. We are never to ask others to do what we are not willing to do ourselves. Fathers cannot ask their children to be sober, honest or diligent if they are not themselves. Pastors cannot ask their parishioners to pray, serve and tithe if they are not doing so
