Scripture
Seek the Lord, all you meek of the earth, who have upheld His justice. Seek righteousness, seek humility. It may be that you will be hidden in the day of the Lord's anger.
(Zephaniah 2:3)
Devotional
As I thought about this verse and writing a word about it, I was at the first not going to include the last sentence, until I considered the phrase, "It may be." When I think about to whom the prophet was speaking: the meek and those who uphold justice, and that they have no guarantee of deliverance, I fear and wonder. Who then can be saved from the wrath to come? Who can escape His judgments? There is only one, Christ. The only assurance we have is Christ in us the hope of glory. There is nothing in me, that is in my flesh, that can deliver me from righteous judgment, nothing but the blood of Jesus. There is no other plea that I can make. I cannot stand on my good works, Bible knowledge, imparted wisdom or level of understanding. These, one and all, have been tainted by my inherent sin nature. All I can do is stand in the righteousness of the perfect Son of God and the completed work of the cross of Calvary. I do not wish to rely on perhaps.
