Title

We Carry His Name

Scripture
You shall not profane My holy name, but I will be hallowed...
(Leviticus 22:32)
Devotional
When Jesus taught His disciples to pray, the first thing He said to them was, “When you pray say, ‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name.’”(1) The name of the Lord is to be both holy and hallowed; that is, all that is done in the name of the Lord is to be of the highest integrity, character and virtue. To be holy is to be worthy of worship. Hallowed is to be set apart and highly honored. Therefore, our holiness is based on our ability to bring God glory.
We likewise hallow Him by being set apart from worldliness. If you consider yourself a believer, you carry the name of the Lord. Therefore, you must ask, “Am I of high integrity and high moral character?” This is how we refrain from profaning the name of the Lord. We are to purposefully maintain a level of dignity and honor that the name of the Lord our God be not blasphemed. Holy and hallowed is His name.

Text For The Day
Leviticus 22:32: “You shall not profane My holy name, but I will be hallowed…”

Thought For The Day
“There are two hundred and fifty-six names given in the Bible for the Lord Jesus Christ, and I suppose this was because He was infinitely beyond all that any one name could express.” Billy Sunday (1862-1957) baseball player turned evangelist, from a sermon titled: Wonderful.
Questions To Ponder
·         The Hebrew word for the Lord is “JHWH” (the Tetragrammaton) and unpronounceable. Therefore, when we honor the Name of the Lord, in whose Name are we to honor?
·         What is the Name that is to be above every name? Consider Philippians 2:9-11.
·         Are you His namesake?
Morning Study Guide
Defining:  By name, we recognize people. By name they are known. Likewise by name we recognize God. He has many titles and many descriptions, but there is only one explicit Name by which He is known, “Jesus.”

Referencing: “Holy Father, keep them in Your name, the name which You have given Me,” John 17:11 NAS.

Applying: Honor your father and mother by carrying their name respectably. Likewise, honor your heavenly Father by carrying His Name worthily.
