Devotional
Every word of God is purposeful. There is no filler in the Bible. There are no stories for the sake of sharing a story. Therefore, there is a lesson to be learned with every word. Here in our text the lesson is clear, there is a godly purpose in observing protocol. There are three simple facts presented in Joseph’s conduct: He groomed himself physically. He dressed properly and he came quickly. The Bible on numerous occasions places significant importance on appearance. There is the appearance of modesty (1 Timothy 2:9). There is proper attire for formal events (Matthew 22:12) and there is clothing for work (John 21:7). Furthermore, “They brought him quickly.” Being late may be fashionable to some, but it is unacceptable to God. Tardiness reflects laziness and apathy. Therefore, ready yourself properly for the events at hand. You may have to appear before a greater than Pharaoh.
