Title

The Power Of The Cross

Scripture
So Moses made a bronze serpent, and put it on a pole; and so it was, if… anyone… looked at the bronze serpent, he lived.
(Numbers 21:9)
Devotional
The people rebelled against the Lord and the Lord chastised them with poisonous serpents. The message was clear; the children of Israel were to look to the Lord not to their own understanding. The same applies to you and me. As Israel looked to the bronze serpent that symbolized the deliverance offered by God, we are to look at the cross of Calvary which is the emblem of salvation. Jesus defined it this way, “And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.” As there was healing in looking to the bronze serpent for Israel, there is healing in the cross of Calvary for us. As the serpent was lifted up, Christ was lifted up. Jesus furthermore said, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”
