Title

Honest In Prayer

Scripture
Give ear to my prayer, O God, and do not hide Yourself from my supplication.
(Psalm 55:1)
Devotional
Honesty with God is by far the best policy. It is not only the best policy, it is the only one He will accept. We can often fool people but we can never fool God. Therefore, when we pray we are to be totally honest. The psalmist is clear in his request and emotion. He called on God with an honest heart. He implored God to listen to him because that was his honest desire. He likewise requested that God give him His undivided attention. This is not arrogance; it is honesty. There are no platitudes nor clichés in his prayer. He prayed what he meant and meant what he prayed. This is how we are to approach our Creator, with a heart of honesty. Let God know exactly how you feel. If you are angry, He knows; do not attempt to hide it. Be open. Be transparent. Be yourself. God will reveal your heart. If you are in need of repentance, He will likewise disclose that as well. Honesty in prayer is the best policy.
