Devotional
Calvary has been romanticized to the point of a fairy tale. The cross of Christ is not a mere piece of jewelry. It is not the capital of a steeple. Calvary is the turn of all History. It is the painful emblem of suffering and shame. You and I are the cause of Calvary. It was our sin the brought Christ to it. It was there that He had to suffer alone. It was there that He had to bare the price of your and my sin. It was on the cross that the Father had to turn His back on His Son when He cried, “My God, My God, why have you forsaken Me?” The Cross ought to cause you to smite your chest and cry unworthy-I am so unworthy. Stop romanticizing Calvary. See it as God intended. It is the place where the blood of our Lord and Savior was shed for the remission of our sins. We sent Him there. Yet, He went freely just for you and me.
