Title

There Is No Romance In Rebellion

Scripture
An evil man seeks only rebellion; therefore a cruel messenger will be sent against him.
(Proverbs 17:11)
Devotional
There is a false romanticism to rebellion. Most teenage heroes fall into this category. Our sinful natures are drawn toward independence. Even Christians attempt to be lone-rangers in God’s kingdom, when there is no such thing. Rebellion, the Bible says, “Is as the sin of witchcraft.” It is for this reason that rebellion is evil. There is no room for it in the believer. Whenever you find yourself wanting to stand alone against the things of God, know for sure that it is rebellion. Whenever you find yourself always finding fault against the Church of Jesus Christ, again, it is most likely rebellion. The fruit of rebellion is anger, bitterness, isolationism and elitism. It is prideful and arrogant. Its wages like all sin is death. Therefore, because of the love of God, a cruel messenger will be sent against it; that its possessor would repent of the sin of rebellion.
