Sunday School

Scripture
Whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to stumble, it would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck, and he were thrown into the sea.
(Mark 9:42)
Devotional
“Jesus loves the little children; all the children of the world; red and yellow, black and white, they are precious in His sight; Jesus loves the little children of the world.” How about you? Most will answer, “yes”. But our actions may not reflect that we do. It sadly appears that we are raising a generation of undisciplined children, and if they are undisciplined, God says that they are not loved. “For whom the Lord loves He chastens, and scourges every son whom He receives.”(1) “If you endure chastening, God deals with you, as with sons; for what son is there whom a father does not chasten? But if you are without chastening, of which all have become partakers, then you are illegitimate and not sons.”(2) When we fail to lovingly discipline and spiritually train our children, we eventually will cause them to stumble. We learned the above song in Sunday school. Are your children faithfully attending Sunday school?

Defining:  There is some debate concerning the origins of Sunday Schools. The modern idea of Sunday school has been attributed to businessman Robert Raikes (1735-1811). Raikes started his first school for the children of chimney sweeps in Sooty Alley, Gloucester England (opposite the city prison) in 1780. There have been found countless “lectionary manuscripts” (portions of Scriptures) thought by some to be first century Sunday school lessons.

Referencing: “They continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers,” Acts 2:42.

Applying: Send your children to Sunday school, attend a Sunday school class, or mayb, you are to teach one.
