A Few Good Rules

Scripture
That you abstain from things offered to idols, from blood, from things strangled, and from sexual immorality. If you keep yourselves from these, you will do well.
(Acts 15:29)

The first century church was slow to lay down a set of rules and regulations. They realized that this thing called Christianity was more than that. It is a relationship instead of religion, and it is an organism instead of an organization. Therefore the rules that were imposed are to receive special attention. The first in our text is related to idolatry. We are not to even have the appearance of a relationship with false gods. The second is both dietary and symbolic. The scripture declares that the life is in the blood. Therefore we are to refrain from blood. The third has to do with sexual morality. The command is clear; we are to refrain from sexual perversions. Sexual relationships are reserved for the institution of marriage. The book of Hebrews states, Marriage us honorable among all and the bed undefiled; but fornicator and adulterers God will judge.” If we keep ourselves from these, we will do well.
