Title

Make Yourself “Invitable”

Scripture
Do not exalt yourself in the presence of the king, and do not stand in the place of the great; for it is better that he say to you, “Come up here,” than that you should be put lower in the presence of the prince...
(Proverbs 25:6-7)
Devotional
Everybody seems to want to be around somebody of importance. We are excited to meet great people. We desire the autographs of the famous, and hunger to be known by the celebrated. There is just something about knowing important people. They have influence. When they speak, people listen, even if they do not know what they are talking about. When you know people of influence, you have influence. Therefore, it is not an egotistical thing to desire to be in the presence of the king. Our text instructs us on how to approach people of stature. We are not to exult ourselves. We are not to make ourselves out to be what we are not. However, if we are accomplished in our endeavors, they will say, “Come up here.” Therefore, do not invite yourself into the presence of the noble; instead, make yourself “invitable.”
