Who’s To Blame?

Scripture
“Yet you say, ‘Why should the son not bear the guilt of the father?’ Because the son has done what is lawful and right...”
(Ezekiel 18:19)
Devotional
We live in a blaming generation. The declaration is, “Its not my fault, I am a victim.” There is an element of truth in this statement. I am a victim of my own ignorance, my own laziness, my own apathy and above all, my own sin. As you cannot give others the credit for your righteousness, you cannot blame them for your sin. You are not lazy, for example, because your parents may have been lazy. You are lazy by choice. Granted it may be easier for you to choose laziness; nevertheless, it's your choice. The Bible declares that the sins of the fathers are passed on to consecutive generations. Yet those sins do not have to be accepted. We are to honor our parents, not blame them. Let me qualify: I am not condoning nor excusing abuse. I am simply stating the fact that sin is our choice. There will be no excuses for it before the judgment seat of God. We are not people of blame, we are people of choice. Let's choose rightly.
