Sin is Enticing

Scripture
My son, if sinners entice you, do not consent.
(Proverbs 1:10)
Devotional
This is wise counsel not only for our children, but also to all. Sin is enticing. It offers great rewards and most often, immediate satisfaction. Sin attempts to numb the mind. It does not want you to think, but only react to impulse. Sin says, “Do not worry, you can pay me later.” This is sin’s only truth. You will pay later, and it will cost you more than you are willing to pay and keep you longer than you will wish to stay. Sin does not want you to consider its consequences. It usually demands an immediate decision. It will not allow time for wise counsel and will tell you to instead find agreement. Sin says, “Seek agreement from your peers.” A peer is someone who would succumb to sin’s enticement in the same manner as you. Peers are more than often lousy jurors.  Always remember that sin and sinners are enticing. They desire your company. The reason is that they are lonely and sin wants you to likewise be lonely.
