Title

If Not The Person, Then the Office

Scripture
So they were offended at Him. But Jesus said to them, “A Prophet is not without honor except in his own country and in his own house.”
(Matthew 13:57)
Devotional
It is a fact of life; nevertheless, it does not have to be. Familiarity truly breeds contempt. The more we know somebody, the more we think that they are like us; and the more we think that they are like us the less we will think of them. The reason being is that we judge others by our own character. Therefore the better we think that we know someone the more we will see him or her on or below our level of integrity. It is for this reason that we are to learn to honor the office as well as the office holder. If we will not honor the person, then we must honor the office. Therefore, there is no choice but to honor. We are to honor the office of husband, wife, father and mother. We are to honor those in authority over us: whether in law, government, business or church---If not for the person, then for the office.
