Our Fear Brings His Mercy

Scripture
Behold, the eye of the Lord is on those who fear Him, on those who hope in His mercy.
(Psalm 33:18)
Devotional
We live in a day when men boast  about their lack of fear. They wear their fearlessness as a badge of honor. It is a noble thing not to fear what man can do to you. It is a foolish thing not to fear what God can do to you. The book of Hebrews warns, “It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.” To fear God is to reverence His power and His power is His Word, the Bible. Fear is having the wisdom not to violate the Word of the Lord. Fear understands the consequences of transgressing the commandments. As the scripture says, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.” Likewise, there is great wisdom in understanding that the fear of the Lord brings the mercy of the Lord. Because of our fear, we receive His mercy; and as James declares, “Mercy triumphs over judgment.”
