Someone Should Know

Scripture
Jonathan …said, “Come, let us go over to the Philistines…” but he did not tell his father.
(1 Samuel 14:1)
Devotional
With responsibility comes accountability. With great responsibility comes even greater accountability. Jonathan was the king’s son. He was at the king’s right hand. He chose to do a good thing. His intentions were noble. Nevertheless, because of his lack of accountability, he nearly lost his life. If Jonathan would have been accountable to King Saul, Saul might not have brought the reproach of a foolish command on the people. Communication preserves. It is required of leadership, especially subordinate leadership. Wise leadership is accountable leadership. Someone should always know where you are and what you are doing. Great leadership is not only accountable for their whereabouts and doings, but for their reasoning as well. Great leaders are accountable for every facet of their lives. Accountability always comes with responsibility; if you are not accountable, you are irresponsible; and irresponsibility is deadly.
