Title

Why Was Jacob Loved and Esau Hated?

Scripture
Jacob had obeyed his father and his mother…
(Genesis 28:7)
Devotional
I do not fully understand the ways of Jacob concerning his brother Esau. Nevertheless, I do understand that God loved Jacob and hated Esau. I do not question the Lord. However, some of the characteristics of Jacob and Esau are evident. Esau, for example, despised his birthright for a bit of food. He furthermore married a heathen just to spite his father Isaac. Jacob, on the other hand, was an obedient child. I can see no other reason for God to have blessed him than his steadfast obedience to the authority in his life. Jacob simply obeyed. Esau simply rebelled. Therefore, teach your children obedience. Demand it. Never embrace rebellion as an acceptable way of life. Drive it far from your children. I would never want to hear of my family or myself that God loved another, but hated me. The best place to start is like Jacob; he “Obeyed his father and his mother.”
