When a Child Dies

Scripture
But now he is dead; why should I fast? Can I bring him back again? I shall go to him, but he shall not return to me.
(2 Samuel 12:23)
Devotional
Death is the final enemy. Every one of us will face it. And when we are able to face it openly life will not only be more precious, but death will lose its sting. Therefore, we need not fear death. We do not have to fear it for ourselves or in others. I can remember as a child being afraid that my parents were going to die. I guess all children have that fear. When I became a man, I began to realize that death was not final, and that it did not mean annihilation. Furthermore, our text confirms the assurance of eternal life with Christ for the innocence of children. David knew that he would see the child again. We likewise are to have that assurance. To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. Here the question about the death of children is answered. When a child leaves this earth he or she is immediately with the Lord.
