Title

Wise Counsel or Crafty Advice?

Scripture
But Amnon had a friend whose name was Jonadab… a very crafty man.
(2 Samuel 13:3)
Devotional
Amnon’s lust for his sister was abhorrent. He needed counsel, but he sought agreement instead. If he would have only gone to his father for counsel, but he did not. Therefore the ramification of his lust and Jonadab’s advice was the destruction of a family and nearly the loss of the kingdom. If Amnon had sought godly counsel instead of the advice of an ungodly friend this great tragidy would not have happened. We like Amnon have a Jonadab in our lives. These are people who agree to sin, but refute godliness. They are more than often-likable folks and like this situation near relatives. Jonadab was Amnon’s cousin. Both were scoundrels, nevertheless, Amnon was the guiltier of the two. He could have refused Jonadab’s advice. Therefore we find no consequence for Jonadab’s perverted advice. However, Amnon lost his life. Seek godly counsel, and watch out for the one with the crafty advice.
