Title

When asked, “What shall I give you?”

Scripture
Give Your servant an understanding heart… that I may discern between good and evil.
(1 Kings 3:9)
Devotional
If God appeared to you in a dream, and said, “Ask! What shall I give you?” What would you answer? Would you ask for material possessions, fame, wealth or power? Would you ask for special abilities or talents? Truly, for what would you ask? Solomon asked for that which pleased the Lord. And because he asked for an understanding heart instead of self-indulgences, God gave him both understanding and riches and honor like none other in the world. God does ask us “What shall I give you?” Nevertheless, like any loving Father, He will not give us that which will do us harm. However, when He sees that we ask wisely, He knows that we are able to handle the other: riches, fame and honor. He will not give the irresponsible that which requires great responsibility. Therefore ask wisely, not shrewdly or cunningly, but in an honest and godly manner.
