Devotional
When we read the Psalms, we seldom think of them as prayers. Nevertheless, that is what many of them were, prayers of both adoration and request. They are the models of supplication as well as worship and praise. The lessons of them are many. The lesson of our text seems to be this: prayer is more than making requests, asking a blessing or even giving of thanks. Prayer is to be bathed in praise and worship. The psalmists constantly acknowledged the Creator. His name was lifted high and His favor was of greater value than anything else the psalmist desired. Therefore, when you read the Psalms, read them prayerfully as well as worshipfully. Adopt them as your own. Bring them to memory. Meditate on them and sing them unto the Lord. The prayers of David the son of Jesse still have the power to be heard and remain the sweetest songs ever sung.
