Title

Those Sent Forth With Power

Scripture
And when it was day, He called His disciples to Himself; and from them He chose twelve whom He named apostles.
(Luke 6:13)
Devotional
Thousands followed Christ during His three years of earthly ministry. Seventy of those were called to be His disciples. These were sent out by two’s to minister as He directed. From that seventy, twelve were chosen to be leaders of the way. They were the ones sent forth with authority to establish Christ’s Kingdom on earth, the Church. Thus, He called them apostles.
There will always be those who are chosen from the called, people who are ordained to lead in a very special way. First, they were called; then they were discipled, and finally they were chosen. There remain today establishers of the way, men who are both gifted and who are gifts to the body of Christ. Their office is to set in order the government of God. They are men who teach men to lead. They are those sent forth with power.

Defining:  I’m not sure, but I would imagine the analogy of being called to a wedding and being chosen to be part of the bridal party is an example of the difference between “called and chosen.”

Referencing: “He who has the bride is the bridegroom; but the friend of the bridegroom, who stands and hears him, rejoices greatly because of the bridegroom’s voice,” John 3:29.

Applying: Endeavor not only to be invited to the wedding, but also to be in the bridal party and in all humility, why not desire to be best man.
