Title

Preparing Our Hearts

Scripture
“And he did evil, because he did not prepare his heart to seek the Lord.”
(2 Chronicles 12:14:)
Devotional
We are to control our hearts; our hearts are not to control us. This is a contrary statement to most because we live in an age that says, “Follow your heart.” But God says through His prophet Jeremiah, “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked; who can know it?” ?King Rehoboam did evil because he failed to control his heart. He did not prepare it for the things of God. The question is, “How do we prepare our hearts?” The answer is, “through the mind.” First of all, we should not violate our consciences. Second, we should fill our minds with the Word of God. ?As we let our consciences and the Word be our guides, we will be able to test God’s perfect will for our lives and not be led by our fleshly desires. We must have a heart for God, but we must also prepare our hearts to seek Him through the reading of the Word and practicing sensitivity to His Spirit.
