Let Us Listen

Scripture
“Hear, O My people, and I will admonish you!…if you will listen to Me!”
(Psalm 81:8:)
Devotional
There is no doubt that God speaks to His people. He speaks to us through His Word, His prophets, and by the prompting of His Spirit. The problem is that we are slow to listen. ?I am convinced that we are slow to listen because we listen for agreement instead of guidance and counsel. To be admonished is to be reproved gently, but earnestly. It seems at times that we would rather God use a spiritual two-by-four to get our attention rather than a gentle reproof. ?God, as a loving Father, earnestly desires to speak to His children. Nevertheless, we like most children are slow to hear and even slower to obey. How foolish of us! ?Let us listen carefully to the admonition of God. Let us obey the instruction from His Word. Let us hear with an obedient ear the voice of His prophets, and let us submit to the gentle shepherding of the Holy Spirit who dwells in us and fills us.
