Title

It is Better To Thirst Now

Scripture
My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and appear before God?
(Psalm 42:2.)
Devotional
Have you ever been thirsty, really thirsty? There is nothing that will quench real thirst like cool clear water. It is good to physically work and need the refreshment of water. It is better to spiritually work and desire the refreshment that only the Lord can bring. We have a choice; we can thirst for Him now, or we can thirst for Him later. Consider the master of Lazarus in the sixteenth chapter of John’s gospel. Finding himself in hell, he cried out, saying, “Father Abraham, have mercy on me and send Lazarus that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue.”(1) Oh, if only he had thirsted for Christ in this life, he would not have had such thirst in the next. Unfortunately, for some, the greatest thirst for God will come when it is too late. It is not too late for you and me. Let us therefore work in such a way that we will thirst for the Lord our God; for we shall all appear before Him---some to glory and some to eternal thirst.

(1) Luke 16:24
Thought For The Night
“Creatures are not born with desires unless satisfaction for those desires exists. A baby feels hunger: well, there is such a thing as food. A duckling wants to swim: well, there is such a thing as water…. If I find in myself a desire which no experience in this world can satisfy, the most probable explanation is that I was made for another world. If none of my earthly pleasures satisfy it, that does not prove that the universe is a fraud. Probably, earthly pleasures were never meant to satisfy it, but only to arouse it, to suggest the real thing.” C.S. Lewis, Mere Christianity.

Defining:  “Our thirst is for God alone; no one else will do. And it is for the living God—not for a dead idol. It is a desire that will only be fully satisfied by a personal appearance before the Lord and the privilege of gazing on His face,” The Believer’s Bible Commentary.

Referencing: “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled,” Matthew 5:6.

Applying: Work up an appetite for righteousness and you shall be filled.
