Title

Stop Speaking into the Air

Scripture
Unless you utter… words easy to understand how will it be known what is spoken? For you will be speaking into the air.
(1 Corinthians 14:9)
Devotional
Nothing reveals who we are and what we believe like our words. Therefore how we speak is who we are. Most people speak too quickly. They run their mouths before engaging their minds. Haste in words makes a waste in time. Likewise we should do our best to make our words easily understood. What virtue is in extrapolating prodigiously with a capacious or commodious vocabulary, yet fail to be palpably fathomed? That is, what if people don’t know what you’re talking about? I have found that it is difficult at best to understand people who do not know what they are talking about. Clear speaking is better than a clouded vocabulary. Say what you mean, mean what you say and say it plainly. Nothing communicates like the honest speaking of words easy to understand, unless you enjoy speaking into the air.
