Title

The Five Kings of Your Enemies

Scripture
Then Joshua said to them, “Do not be afraid, nor be dismayed; be strong and of good courage...”
(Joshua 10:25)
Devotional
The five kings of sin, your enemies, lust, greed, laziness, ignorance, and disobedience, are not to be feared when resisted by the King of your life, the Lord Jesus Christ. When these enemies attack and you submit to the authority of your King, they will flee from you and hide in a coward’s cave. When we stand against them by exposing them to the light of the Son of God, we need not be dismayed or afraid of them any longer. We can place our foot on their proverbial necks and destroy their power and authority in our lives. Therefore whenever you are tempted to surrender to any of these five kings, be of good courage, for greater is your King than theirs. If you resist them they will flee to the darkness of their cave. You can attempt to keep them there, but eventually they will escape and attack you again. Therefore, you must defeat them by courageously exposing them each time to the authority of the King of your life, our Savior, Jesus Christ.

Questions To Ponder

Morning Study Guide
Defining:  “Enemy,” someone or something that is actively opposed or hostile toward another. A true enemy desires to damage or harm you or your endeavors. Learn who they are; love them (Matthew 5:44), but mark them.

Referencing: “When the enemy comes in like a flood, The Spirit of the Lord will lift up a standard against him,” Isaiah 59:19.

Applying: Those whom you may deem to be your enemies may not be enemies at all; they may simply be tools in the enemy’s hands (tools are neither evil nor good in themselves). Remember, “we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places,” Ephesians 6:12.
