Blessed Is the Man

Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful...
(Psalm 1:1)
Devotional
From whom do you receive your counsel? Who’s truth do you follow? We are so quick to believe those who are called experts. We follow the crowd that follows the fads. From diets to clothing; furniture to music; and from philosophy to religion, we are a very fickle people. When we follow the counsel of the ungodly, we follow a foundationless counsel. Therefore, we are to seek wise counsel. We are to seek counsel from the godly. We are to seek counsel from those who delight in the Lord. The best and clearest counsel comes from the Word of God, the Bible. Read it. Learn it. Study it. Whether in business, family, health, or politics, go to the Word of the Lord for wise counsel. Find those who have succeeded in a godly manner. Submit to them as they submit to the Word of the Lord.

Definition: To be “blessed” in the biblical sense is a state of mind. Yes, it is to be “happy.” As a matter of fact, Christians ought to be the happiest people on the face of the earth. It translates as “blessed” 27 times, and “happy” 18 times in the NKJV.

Reference: “Blessed shall you be in the city, and blessed shall you be in the country. Blessed shall be the fruit of your body, the produce of your ground and the increase of your herds, the increase of your cattle and the offspring of your flocks. Blessed shall be your basket and your kneading bowl. Blessed shall you be when you come in, and blessed shall you be when you go out.” Deuteronomy 28:3-6

Application: Define the ungodly, the sinner, and the scornful; love them, but mark them.
